Useful Information for Local Authority Elected Members

This page provides reference materials that we feel will be of use to local councillors interested and/or actively involved in their authority’s service improvement initiatives, local partnerships and information sharing. The following items can be viewed by clicking the links highlighted in blue.

The Case for Government Connect
This is a good place to start. It provides a core brief on what Government Connect is, how it is funded and managed, why it is important for local authorities to implement and maintain GCSX connectivity and how utilising it can help improve service delivery.

The Benefits Realisation Fund
The fund is intended to encourage the beneficial implementation of Government Connect across the local authority sector and the sharing of learning and experience.

The aim is to encourage innovation and creativity in relation to the introduction of the secure data sharing capability provided by GCSX and to help accelerate the realisation of the associated benefits.

The IDeA are managing the fund with the support of an Award Committee which includes representation from IDeA, SOCITM and Government Connect.

The application deadline for the fund was January 2009.  The response has been excellent and the Award Committee has approved funding for over 20 local authority led projects that aim to utilise GCSX to improve service delivery in a variety of ways.

For information on the fund and the projects involved please visit the IDeA Community of Practice.
